When Ticino inspired Swiss Expressionism

Between 1923 and 1927, a group of artists formed in Switzerland on the initiative of the famous German expressionist painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. After intense and long periods of work between the canton of Graubünden and Ticino, together with the young Basel painters Hermann SchererAlbert Müller and Paul Camenisch from Zurich, the Rot-Blau Group (red and blue, the colours of Ticino) was born, later joined by Werner Neuhaus. A brief but important artistic cycle that represents a fundamental experience for Swiss expressionism and whose stylistic hallmark is the depiction of landscapes and portraits marked by a great emotional charge and bright colours.

Open to the public: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
