Videocity visits: Abu Dhabi with "Food In Flux; Food For Us"
"Food In Flux; Food For Us" is a a cooperation between Videocity and La Petite.
From the 16th of December, 2021 to the 1st of January, 2022, Videocity will showcase 14 video artworks centered around food at La Petite Café over three separate screening cycles. In each cycle, food is depicted as more than just a means to nutrition and sustenance; the cultural underpinnings of food, along with its inextricable association to time, are exposed. Led by curator Andrea Domesle, the project invites visitors to experience food –and the act of eating – with estranged eyes while examining the socio-political systems within which food is produced, consumed, and ultimately perceived. Examining everything from capitalist supply chains, modern conceptions of hygiene, to primitive instincts to interact with food, the selected works raise integral questions about our universal relationship with food across space, time, and life forms. Food here serves to reify invisible notions of appetite and acquisition.
